They do have a point however, that the overall conditioning of a BJJ athlete isn't close to the overall conditioning of a Judo athlete, but BJJ is a really young martial art in comparison and Judokas train for the olympics. So there's a significant difference in drive and talent right there.

Catch wrestling is BJJ nurfed. Catch is style that largely died out - and was focused on nogi. Whereas BJJ is / was a gi based sport. While it's always had a nogi component for MMA/ vale tudo / fighting - the actual nogi scene as it stands now is a relatively recent development in BJJ. The quality of JJJ varies wildly, while BJJ clubs tend to be consistently high quality. It's also much easier to 'test' the quality of a BJJ club than a JJJ - look at their lineage and competition record. My best suggestion would be to try out both and see which you enjoy more, see which suits your personal goals more. Good luck.

I did the New York Pro once and, at blue, masters, light it felt identical to the Opens I’ve done in Europe. I’d be surprised if there’s any real difference.
