Every medical school has a defined admissions committee that ultimately decide the incoming class. The University of Kansas School of Medicine Admissions Committee consists primarily of KU SOM faculty members. The 24 members are elected by faculty peers, appointed by the Dean, or are selected community members and M4 students from all campuses. The School of medicine was established in 2004 as a Centre of excellence in health research, capacity building and product development. It has rapidly developed over time and now has eleven departments that are fully established offering various degrees and diplomas.
