Some of the best archer thralls are: Named Votary Archers, Named Relic Hunter Archers, Relic Hunter Treasure Seeker Archers, Lumerian named archers and Black Hand named Archers. If you farm legendaries, you may be able to spare Huntress bow, or other strong bows like Bess's Bow and Frostbow.

Now they actually do consume each arrow that they shoot. You don't need, but if you don't, they will use default arrows, and these don't do lot damage. So better give them some good arrows. Depends your level, and what you can afford. First i give them mostly iron arrows, then serpent-men when i gathered the recipe.

Serpent man arrows were once made from basic iron so they were excellent for their cost. I haven't looked at them since 3.0 so that may be different now. If they are still made from basic iron they are the best for the cost. Dragonbone arrows make only one at a time so I never bother with them.
