Sometimes that burnt patch means you are using too "hot" of a load, try backing down on your load in 5grain increments.Modern barrels run on smokeless powder. And they don't blow up. Using smokeless powder is the only reason to build a muzzleloader using a modern barrel.That's why I only buy scopes intended for muzzleloaders and offer 4" minimum for eye relief. The eye relief is posted for this scope. At the 3x setting it has an eye relief of 4" At the 9x it says 3.1".
