It’s kwikset don’t take the screws out all the way, they’re intended to be left in place. One of two things is going on, either you need to flip the interior knob 180 degrees or you need to lock/unlock the interior knob. Or both. There’s a C shaped bar that comes from the exterior knob through the door bolt and into the interior knob. Make sure you lock is installed on your door and that your door is all the way open. If you have a deadbolt, make sure it is in the locked potion. If you have a knob or lever, make sure it is in the locked position. The set screw that holds the lever on the shaft is pre-installed in lever shaft. Once you slide the lever on the shaft, insert the 3/32 allen wrench in the hole on the side of the lever to tighten the lever on.
