Generally you want to gear your gatherer with scrip gears as its the most cost and performance efficient. You only need to update your gatherer gear for each next tier in gathering (20,40,60,70,80) Leveling was specified. You shouldn't need full crafted/melded from each expansion just to level. It's more like a solo instance for people to gather, there is no longer any battle content there. Unless they have plans to make "party based" events for gatherers within Diadem, odds are it's just going to be a lot of people going clockwise in an instance gathering materials and blowing up mobs for their pieces.
