School size is very different - SDSU has 33,000 faculty and staff and SLO has 19,000 so its a much bigger campus. SDSU has a very good public health program and the community colleges nearby have supporting health programs.

My girlfriend goes to Cal Poly. With regard to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is a great place to go to college. Cal Poly is the only show in town, so the whole city and even region rallies around it. The downtown area is great with many shops and restaurants and bars that really cater to students (cheap food, fun environment).

Most students at Cal Poly SLO are Californians–so a correspondingly low % of CA Black students at SLO makes sense.

The deposit comes in the housing application ($1500), which all freshmen are required to live on campus the first year (unless they get an exemption, which then they would be committing to go for sure because the process for the exemption isn’t easy). I forget what the yield rate is for that college but I think @Gumbymom generally suggests 33% yield to give you an idea. 2 of my classmates were locals & they got accepted to SLO Business with a 2.84 & both still continued their behavior by pulling C-'s in classes at Cal Poly.
