Alternator doesn’t appear to be coated in oil. If the front passenger side tip of the oil pan is constantly wet then it is the oil pump. That oil leak eventually results in streaks coming down the side then to the bottom of the oil pan. So, I ended up replacing the entire Spool valve with a honda part. FYI I was able to get my local dealer's parts counter to match honda parts online's price + shipping which was roughly an $80-100 savings. 6 hours is a bit of a reach IMO, unless they are also going to remove the rear valve cover and check valve lash on the rear cylinders as well.

Apr 1, 2023 · I just did the same repair on my ‘08 Odyssey less than two weeks ago. I bought the OEM spool valve assembly (Honda # 15810-R70-A04) so that I would have the original gaskets. I also used the top portion of the new assembly in the repair. No leaks or CEL since. 07 has VCM-2, means both banks have cylinder deactivation, means there is a "spool valve" on both banks. One (bank 2, firewall side) conveniently located engine front left above the alternator, and one harder to get at tranny side on rear (bank 1).
