get my patch material from JoAnne's Fabric Store. I wash and dry it first then fold several layers (5-6) of fabric slightly wider than the patch I want and use a sharpened hole saw in my drill press to cut the patches. The gun was finished basically to in "the white" by my gunsmith. The barrel is a 32" GM LRH 50 cal 1-28 twist. The action is from Taylor Machine.It is nice and small and reasonably easy to make. The pattern is drawn on 1" squares. The area above the "dot-dash" to the "dash-dash" can be used in one of two ways. 1) folded under and sewn or 2) separate piece from thinner leather and folded as an edging as can be seen in the first photo.The striped pillow ticking (0.015) or mattress ticking (0.018) is easiest to find. Some like the extra thickness in denim (0.020) patching or canvas (0.022). Some like the finer and denser weave of the drill cloth / utility cloth (0.017) from JoAnn's Fabrics.
