The Glenfield 30A is/was the cheaper version of the Marlin 336. Then Marlin discontinued the Glenfield line. They still made the guns, but now called the Marlins. So a "Marlin 30A" is just a newer "Glenfield 30A", which is the no-frills version of a Marlin 336. Same guns, same internals, just not as pretty.

I found a used (obviously) 30a for sale at a local gun store here in San Antonio. It seems to be in great condition. 20" barrel with the full tube mag. They have it listed for $370. This seems a little steep for a 30a. From what I have researched, the 30a was the low end of the spectrum of the 336 made for places like Western Auto and KMart.

The Glenfield 30A was produced from around 1971/1972 to about 1981/1982 when it became the Marlin Mod 30AS. They are a quality Marlin made under the Glenfield name. They have the hardwood stocks, end cap and one barrel band, dovetailed front sight, and a non-folding rear sight---the rest of the rifle is pretty much the same as the Mod 336.

They are written up in Brophy's book. The 30 was the earlier version, then Marlin dropped the 30 and went to the 30A. I had one 30, which I sold, and I currently have a 30A.
